This is a summary of the Bedford Gazette article of September 5, 1941.

The National VFW band competition was held in the Philadelphia Municipal Stadium before 40,000 spectators. The Everett Junior VFW band was selected as the National First Place band.

The band was awarded a prize of $350. A cavalcade of 75 cars met the buses in Breezewood and escorted the buses to Everett. Horns were blowing and flags were waving to honor the winning band. The buses circled the block and met in front of the Union Hotel where speeches were made. “Practically the entire town turned out” for the victory celebration.

E.S. Buchanan was the Master of Ceremonies for this huge celebration for the town of Everett and its award-winning band. Many countywide dignitaries were there, including the County Judge, Sheriff, District Attorney, County Commissioners, and others. The 21st VFW District Commander was also there.

Lantz Knight was the band director and he delivered a very emotional speech.

A Victory banquet was planned to be held at the Everett American Legion Home the following week.
